Bespoke walk in closet and wardrobe - Den Haag

Luxury wardrobes, bedrooms, bathrooms and classy interiors are in high demand. Last year we had the opportunity to design and install a very beautiful and classic wardrobe that transformed to a high-end walk-in closet and total bedroom project. All the interior projects are custom made and fully designed to fit.

Design process and decisions

During the process the decisions were made to also rebuild the big and spacious bathroom. We followed the line of the wardrobes and also in this space we have designed a luxury, handpainted and very classic bathroom with wooden cabinets and marble stone.

The big villa is based in Den Haag in a beautiful residential area and needed fitted furniture. The house has many elaborated classic elements and was perfectly suitable for the classic style outlook wardrobes, walk-in and bedroom.

When we first entered the space we were actually doubtful about the amount of space such walkin-closet with wardrobes would take in respect to the total available space in the separated bedroom. The question was if it was worth to invest and offer that much space in the room.

Therefore we have decided this design could only be seen in combination with the total set of ideas. This means floors, radiator covers, night stands, lights, colors and the bed and windows all had to combined into a classic but spacious design where optimal results would be booked.

Designing the perfect wardrobe

The first central question would be where the bed would be located. After this decision we knew exactly how much space would be left over for the closets and wardrobes. The back panel would function as the back panel for the bed and the backwall of the walkin closet.

So with the given set of measures the design would come to life and get more realistic. We have created the entry on one side by mean of a normal door. Then left and right of the new space would be with closets, wardrobes, mirrors and and an open backwall for shoes.

How to divide the perfect walkin-closet in your bedroom? This was the big challenge; to find the balance between a nice and classical outlook, functionality and feeling of space. Besides we also wanted to design and use a piece of the wardrobes as a nice showcase for nice items.

In short the walkin closets and bespoke wardrobes were designed with a left wall with classical panel doors for all storage, hanging space and shelving. This whole left wall is with closed spaces and has 6 drawers in the bottom. In the middle we have made a pull-out unit for the shoes that can be out of sight.

The final lay-out

The design and planning challenge in rooms like this is to create at least enough space to be able to open all doors and drawers and to have enough space to dress.

The right side of the space gives the spacious feel in the room. The right side has drawers, a small storage unit but besides it is all cupboards with glass doors, a drawer with glass and open spaces with mirrors as background. The latter is a very smart solution as the space in the room is not that big. So the mirrors create this amazing effect in the room where the light and space reflects in the mirrors. The effect is not only in the space but also the light.

The short backwall is made fully open with slanted shelves a showcase for all the nice shoes.

The floor of the newly created wardrobe room or walkin closet is a carpet in a light color. This gives a very soft and easy feel if you enter the room.

Classical wardrobe design

The wardrobe came out very classical, spacious and very functional. The outside wall on the other side also is made in nice panels, as a backboard for the bed. All in the same style and we have integrated nightstands and radiator covers in the same line. All bespoke and designed to fit.

The finish is handpainted in Sikkens semi – gloss in a crispy white color (RAL9016). This gives the freshness to the rooms and outlooks. The handpainted delivery versus the sprayed finish is a discussion we often carry. We think handpainted gives the necessary character to the outlook and interior.

Bespoke bathroom cabinets

The bespoke bathroom cabinets were a whole other story. To create those cabinets was a challenge as there were a lot of factors to be considered.

The first question is such a spacious and square space is where to place the sanitary items. In this case the bath would come on the opposite wall whereas the big classical bathroom cabinet comes on the right side. The entire sides around the bath are done in classic panelling. The same applies for the main bathroom cabinet. The top and the inner panels are done in a beautiful marble.

Outlining the position of the panels was a true challenge as the stonemason, plumber and carpenter had to align their jobs.

The result is astonishing and the beauty of natural material like marble and the classic cabinetry make a great combination. Custom made interior building and custom cabinetry make great results.
